Dementia is a disease caused by a decline in brain function due to neurological changes. The risk of dementia increases as age, there has been a downward trend of dementia patients’ ages. Since the loss of brain function is irreversible, early pharmacological and non-pharmacological support can slow down the process of brain degeneration and alleviate the symptoms.

Common symptoms of early stage of dementia:

Decline in short-term memory

  • Have difficulty with remember recent events.
  • Suddenly forget what want to say during a conversation.

 

Decline in executive function

  • Often make mistakes in steps when cooking familiar dishes, and take longer time to cook than before.
  • Frequently make mistakes while making payments, miscalculate the cost of the purchased items.

 

Decline in language ability

  • Have difficulty in finding correct words when speaking.
  • Struggle to understand what others are saying affects daily communication.

 

Change in mood and personality

  • Feel depressed, anxious, and easier to get angry.
  • Loss interest in things that were once enjoyed.

Do not ignore the early symptoms of dementia. As the condition worsens, the patient gradually loses their self-care skills, increasing the burden on the patient’s family or caregiver.
